Establishing corporate and community identity through detailed content.

The Austin Foundation
As a member of a Taproot Foundation pro bono service grant team, served as the copy writer for the Austin Foundation’s website redesign. The goal for the project was to transform the foundation’s website into a powerful outreach platform championing the Austin Foundation’s work with Seattle area youth.

The Austin Foundation’s mission is to improve the physical, mental and emotional health of King County youth by providing safe access to fitness education, nutritional information and structured exercise programs. The foundation’s previous website did not welcome visitors to learn more about the foundation’s incredible work, nor did it truly convey the unique energy and personality of their volunteers and the youth they serve.

My role required me to assimilate not only the Austin Foundation’s goals and mission, but also their voice. I sought to actively engage new visitors by maintaining a personable style. I also attempted to balance that warmer voice with concrete examples and factual data to underscore both the need for the Austin Foundation’s work and the evidence of their past and continued success.

RE/MAX of Alabama
Created an extensive section of community content covering each of Alabama's three distinct regions. Content was specifically designed to illuminate Alabama's bright points for potential relocation clients.

This project provided a unique opportunity to research an area of the country with which I had very little familiarity. The challenge was to quickly learn the selling points of Alabama and attempt to understand the personality of the state and, indeed, the South itself.

Prudential Northwest Realty Associates
The opportunity to write a community content section covering Seattle was a true joy, as I am so deeply in love with the city and Puget Sound area as a whole. Perhaps the greatest challenge throughout this project was maintaining a balanced voice and avoiding the tendency to overstate my case, so to speak. It was also critical to remove myself from the role of “resident” and write content accessible to both visitors already living in the area as well as out-of-state clients interested in moving to the region.

Prudential Northwest Properties
With a client based almost entirely inside the Rose City, this project gave me the unique opportunity to research and write content for a single metropolitan area. With a more focused subject to cover, I had the freedom to delve deeper into community attractions and to dissect individual neighborhoods, explaining the character and appeal of Portland’s many faces,

RE/MAX of New Jersey
Overseeing a team of three content assistants, I planned the outline, research and creation of a deep community content section covering each of New Jersey’s geographical regions. This project called for a strong organization skills and the ability to closely monitor and guide several team members not used to writing original content. Much of my energy was also focused on copy editing and the extensive re-writing of content written by others, a new experience for me in a professional setting. The resulting is a community section that matches substantial depth and balance of content with a professional yet neighborly voice.
